The Course on Business English III conducted by the Multimedia English Language Center(MELC) has been made compulsory for all students from CA Professional(Strategic Level 1), so as to enhance their language competence and communication skills and prepare them to meet future career needs. In this tailor-made programme the students have the opportunity to improve the most pertinent business soft skills through appropriate learning channels. The activities in this motivating programme will enable the students to develop the skills, techniques and disciplines to translate their career goals into reality, thereby providing them better opportunities to identify the competencies that are essential to ensure effective contribution to the job roles in an organization. To achieve successful and strategically beneficial outcomes, this unique approach is combined with focused workshops and e-modules with the aim to expose participants to real life communication, providing them the opportunity to communicate in realistic situations.
This course is conducted in two stages as follows.
- Business English III -Part I: Communication Skills through Network Based Computers and Workshops
- Business English III - Part II: Entry to Toastmasters Programme
The students are required to fulfil Business English III Part I & Part II at CA Professional (Strategic Level 1) & CA Professional (Post Strategic) Level respectively before they apply for the Associate Membership.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) courses are conducted for CA Sri Lanka members, students and the general public who intend to study or work at a place where English is the main language of communication. The CA Sri Lanka membership is an internationally recognized qualification that has opened doors all over the world for Sri Lankans to achieve greater heights in their profession. Fulfilling this long-felt need, the CA Sri Lanka joined hands together with the British Council to offer IELTS courses that are conducted by a well experienced team of British Council trained lecturers.
The CA Sri Lanka offers 3 programmes viz a 50-hour Preparation Course, 20-hour Intensive course and one day training programme. The selection of the first two programmes will be made based on the competency level of the students. The standard is assessed through a placement test and each candidate is trained accordingly in a stipulated number of hours to achieve the desired score by giving individual attention with constant feedback. Both the Preparation Course and the Intensive course have been designed in an interactive way and also to maximize the performance which is tracked through regular testing. The one day training programme is a recapitulating session that consists of extensive revision on IELTS preparation and also enable the candidates to acquire effective exam techniques within a short period.
With a view to facilitate aspiring finance and accountancy professionals to validate that they have first-rate financial English language skills and to enhance the ability to communicate confidently and efficiently within the international business community, the CA Sri Lanka has embarked on a new project to introduce the Cambridge International Certificate in Financial English(ICFE) at post strategic level.
The University of Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) have combined their expertise to develop the Cambridge ICFE qualification and with Cambridge University Press have developed a complementary 120 hour blended learning course, Cambridge Financial English(CFE) with a mix of 75 hours online and 45 hours face-to-face learning. The exam that is conducted by the British Council consists of four papers, comprehensively covering the four communication skills: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Each test is based on realistic texts, tasks and topics similar to those that finance professionals would expect to encounter in their daily work. A certificate which is highly recognized internationally is awarded to the successful candidate by the University of Cambridge, UK.
The Cambridge ICFE is a globally recognised qualification and exams are conducted across the world throughout the year. For those planning a successful career in finance and accounting, this course will demonstrate to potential employers they have financial English skills needed to drive business success in the international arena. For professionals with established careers, this course can be used to further endorse existing language skills and provide proof of ability.
