CA Sri Lanka’s Business Level exams attract over 3300 students and records a 50% plus pass rate

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) attracted a total of 3319 students for its Business Level I & II exams held in November and December 2021, while also recording a pass rate of over 50%.

The physical exams were held across the country in exam centres in Colombo, Galle, Kandy, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Bandarawela, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, and Batticaloa.

CA Sri Lanka also fast tracked the release of the exam results by issuing it in just eight working days after the exam was concluded on 05th December.

The Business Level is the first stage of the globally recognised Chartered Accounting programme offered by CA Sri Lanka, and the Business Level comprise of eight subjects which are BL1 Financial Accounting, BL2 Business Mathematics & Statistics, BL3 Business Law, BL4 Business Environment & Economics, BL5 Audit, Business Processes & Digitalisation, BL6 Management Accounting, BL7 Business Taxation and BL8 Digital Business Strategy.

An impressive number of students obtained the highest marks of 90% for BL2 and BL3 subjects, followed by the second highest marks of the exam which was 80% for the BL1, BL4, BL5, BL7 and BL8 subjects. The highest pass marks recorded for the BL7 subject was 75%.

Meanwhile, CA Sri Lanka organised a prize giving ceremony to honour the top achievers of the Business Level exam which was held under the patronage of CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, Council Members Ms. Anoji De Silva and Mr. Saman Sirilal, Director Examinations Mr. Prasanna Liyanage, Examination Consultant as well as the students and their parents.

Gehani Amasha Wahalathanthri was awarded the first in order of merit prize at the Business Level I exam, while Ravindu Akuratiya Witharana won the second in order of merit prize and Imiya Umeshika Kalpani won the third merit prize.

At the Business Level II exam, Dona Dewmini Chamathka won the first in order of merit prize, while Rizvy Fahima Rishdah won the second merit prize, and Kiyas Raji Mohamed Nazik won the third merit prize.

Under the subject prizes, Gehani Amasha Wahalathanthri won the Financial Accounting (BL1) subject prize, while Ravindu Akuratiya Witharana won the Business Mathematics and Statistics (BL2) subject prize, and Imiya Umeshika Kalpani won the Business Law (BL3) subject prize.

The Business Environment and Economics (BL4) subject prize was shared by Ravindra Sashika Abeynayake, Sivakaran Suganthi, Leshan Kaveesha Amarasinghe and Rashmi Praba Vitharana. Both the Audit, Business Processes and Digitalization (BL5) subject prize and the Business Taxation (BL7) subject prize were bagged by Faleel Mohamed Akram.

Lakshi Ishara Abeywickrama and Samitha Neranjani Wijesinghe shared the Management Accounting (BL6) subject prize, while the Digital Business Strategy (BL8) subject prize was shared by Dona Dewmini Chamathka, Rizvy Fathima Rishdah and Duleeka Madhushani Namasena.

The CA Sri Lanka curriculum comprises of three levels: Business Level, Corporate Level and Strategic Level. A unique feature of the CA Sri Lanka programme is that students who successfully complete each level under the CA curriculum receive a recognised accounting qualification, which guarantees employability locally and overseas.

Students who complete the Business Level exam successfully will qualify as a Certified Business Accountant (CBA), while students who complete the Corporate Level will qualify as a Certified Corporate Accountant (CCA). The Strategic Level is the third and final level of the CA Sri Lanka programme, and students who complete the requirements as per this level will be awarded the benchmark Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) qualification.

CA Sri Lanka is also the only professional body in the country to offer a dual membership pathway simultaneously with one of the world’s most respected accounting bodies, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW). To obtain dual membership from CA Sri Lanka and ICAEW, CA students must complete 2 out of 5 subjects from the CA Sri Lanka Strategic Level and 3 subjects from the ICAEW Advanced Level.
