History was made at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) which recorded the highest number of students to ever sit for the Institute’s Certificate in Accounting and Business (CAB) examinations conducted recently.
An overwhelming number of students amounting to almost 20,000 sat for the Certificate in Accounting and Business level one and level two exams held across the country covering the southern, western, central, northern, eastern, sabaragamuwa and north central provinces.
With a student base of over 41,000 who are currently following the institute’s globally recognised chartered accountancy programme, CA Sri Lanka is one of the largest tertiary education providers in the country apart from being a leading professional organisation providing leadership and insight to the accounting and finance profession in Sri Lanka.
CA Sri Lanka President, Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse stressed that the institute has continued to go from strength to strength making massive inroads in the tertiary education sector of this country. “Our qualification is globally recognised and as a testament to this we have approximately 30 percent of our 4300 members who are serving in various capacities outside Sri Lanka,” he noted.
Mr. Rajapakse emphasised that every year, the institute strives to provide better opportunities for its members and students and with this objective the institute has signed various agreements with foreign accounting bodies as well as local universities thereby further enhancing the standards and standing of CA Sri Lanka.
“CA Sri Lanka enjoys an impressive standing in the accounting world and our qualification is our identity. Of our members an impressive percentage play an leading role in the corporate world at top managerial level capacities, and therefore, due to our standing, we are witnessing an increased interest for our CA qualification and this latest record is very encouraging in our capacity as a leading tertiary education provider in the country,” he added.
Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka, Mr. Aruna Alwis pointed out that the institute has also launched various exit mechanisms for students who are partly qualified. “Among our fresh initiatives is the Certified Business Accountants (CBA) recognition which is offered to students who are partly qualified in CA.”
“Students who pass the CAB II level are eligible to become Certified Business Accountants (CBA). The CBA designation is also recognised by both the public and private sectors,” he added.
Emphasising on the examination standards followed by the institute, Mr. Alwis noted that CA Sri Lanka conducts examinations in the strictest of conditions on par with global standards under the supervision of chartered accountants and qualified invigilators.
