The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) will be the host for the much anticipated international financial event of the year, the International Conference on Integrated Reporting which will be held on October 20th 2012 at the Waters Edge, Battaramulla.
Held on the sidelines of a series of high-level meetings of the Confederation of Asian and Pacific Accountants (CAPA), the international conference will feature the director of the International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) Mr. Jonathan Labrey as the keynote speaker, backed by an eminent team of panelists from Australia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and United Kingdom, who will share their experiences and insights into integrated reporting.
The eminent team of panelists will comprise of some well-known personalities from the accounting and finance world including, Mr. Prabhakar Kalavacherl – Member of the International Accounting Standards Board, Dr. S.K. Gupta – Technical Director of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, Dr. Andrew Conway – Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Public Accountants (Australia), Mr. Mark Spofforth – President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Mr. Anwaruddin Chowdhury – Council Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Bangladesh, Mr. Robert Thomason – Executive General Manager (Business Development) of CPA Australia, Mr. Neil Stevenson – Executive Director (Brand) of ACCA, Dr. Vijith Kannangara - Founder & Chairman of Smart Media and Mr. Mohammad Iqbal Ghori - Chief Financial Officer of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company.
Integrated reporting is a new approach to corporate reporting that demonstrates the linkages between an organization’s strategy, governance and financial performance and the social, environmental and economic context within which it operates. By reinforcing these connections, integrated reporting can help businesses to make more sustainable decisions and enable investors and other stakeholders to understanding how an organization is really performing.
Chartered accountants from across the Asian and Pacific region including Sri Lanka are expected to participate in this important event, which will cover key areas including the importance of implementing integrated reporting, the benefits from implementing it, the challenges and barriers facing its implementation.
Mr. Labrey is responsible for public affairs and policy at IIRC. The mission of IIRC is to create globally accepted integrated reporting framework which brings together financial, environmental, social and governance information in a clear, concise, consistent and comparable format. The primary aim of the Council is to help with the development of a more comprehensive and comprehensible information about the organization, prospective as well as retrospective, to meet the needs of a more sustainable global economy.
CAPA is the regional organization representing national accountancy organizations in the Asia-Pacific region. Today, CAPA has a membership of 31 accountancy organizations in 23 jurisdictions.
