Bahrain Chapter

Sri Lankan Accountants Association – Bahrain

A significant number of Sri Lankan finance professionals are employed in various industries in the Kingdom of Bahrain.  In 2009, a few of them initiated the idea of forming an association of Sri Lankan accountants.  As a result, in 2010 the “Sri Lankan Accountants Association – Bahrain” (“SLAAB”) was formed.

SLAAB was formed to provide support to all Sri Lankan accountants to further their knowledge and also provide a forum for sharing their knowledge and experiences of working in the region. It was also felt that this forum would assist in improving the technical and other skills required by Sri Lankan accounting professionals and also enable them to meet the minimum ‘Continuing Professional Development’ (CPD) requirements as mandated by the relevant professional institutes.

SLAAB presently comprises of around 75 members and student members representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, UK (CIMA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, UK (ACCA).

Primary objectives of SLAAB:

  • Facilitate Sri Lankan accounting professionals to continuously update their knowledge and skills in order to fulfill their obligations of meeting the minimum Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements set by their respective professional accounting bodies.
  • Liaise with the relevant professional accounting bodies on behalf of the members of SLAAB in connection with matters related to CPD requirements.
  • Facilitate professional and social networking among Sri Lankan accounting professionals.
  • Support and encourage Sri Lankan accounting students to complete their examinations by providing mentoring, coaching and guidance on a best effort basis.

The Executive Committee of SLAAB is charged with the duty to ensure that this mandate is met.
