200 Graduates Celebrate Academic Excellence at CA Sri Lanka’s SAB Campus Convocation 2024

The SAB Campus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) held its 8th Annual Convocation on 16th December 2024, celebrating the academic achievements of 200 graduates and bringing the total number of graduates to 1,500 since the launch of the degree in 2013.

The convocation at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall celebrated the graduates as they were conferred with the Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting degree, recognising their accomplishments in completing the General and Honours degree programmes.

The event was graced by Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewe, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education as the Chief Guest, and Prof. Athula Manawaduge, Senior Lecturer, University of Sri Jayawardenapura as the Guest of Honour. Several esteemed guests, including Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, President of CA Sri Lanka; Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President of CA Sri Lanka; Ms. Lakmali Priyanka, Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka; and Senior Professor Ariyarathna Jayamaha, Director of SAB Campus, were also present.

In his speech, Mr. Kaluwewe, expressed his admiration for CA Sri Lanka members while commending the SAB Campus for its holistic approach to awarding degrees. He highlighted the exceptional professionalism and integrity of CA professionals, noting how they consistently exceed expectations in their professional roles. Mr. Kaluwewe also praised the SAB Campus’s holistic 360-degree approach to academic education, which goes beyond awarding degrees by adopting diverse methods to evaluate graduates.

During the convocation, 41 special awards were also presented to outstanding graduates, in recognition of their exceptional academic and extracurricular achievements. These awards exemplified the commitment to nurturing excellence and innovation in academic level education at the SAB Campus.

During the ceremony, Mr. Kuruppu reaffirmed the mission of CA Sri Lanka to inspire, guide, and empower the next generation of leaders who will drive progress and create meaningful impact both in Sri Lanka and globally. “As the academic arm of CA Sri Lanka, the SAB Campus is committed to offering innovative programmes, including a potential bachelor’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, to keep pace with industry trends,” Mr. Kuruppu said.

Mr. Subasinghe noted that with an impressive 100% employability and a remarkable 40% of SAB graduates making their mark overseas, including in regions such as Australia, the UK, the US, the Middle East, and New Zealand, the SAB Campus continues to set the benchmark in transforming higher education.

The SAB Campus, with a distinguished history spanning over a decade, is renowned for offering students a unique experience that extends beyond traditional theoretical knowledge. The SAB Campus offers two-degree programmes, Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting and Bachelor of Management Honours in Business Analytics Degree, which are recognized by the University Grants Commission and approved by the Ministry of Education and includes a built-in internship programme that provides undergraduates with valuable real-world experience thereby ensuring they become industry-ready graduates.
