CA Sri Lanka’s SAB Campus launches Business Analytics Degree and MBA

The highly acclaimed SAB Campus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) continued to expand the boundaries of higher education by launching two new world-class degrees in its continuing vision to create employable youth and support professionals in their ascent to achieve greater success in the corporate world.

The Bachelor of Management Honours in Business Analytics and the Master of Business Administration (MBA) were ceremoniously unveiled on 25th July 2023, in the presence of Chief Guest Senior Professor Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of the University Grants Commission, as well as corporate leaders, industry experts, and academics. Also present were CA Sri Lanka's President Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, Vice President Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, Chairman of the Board of Management of SAB Campus Mr. Ashane Jayasekara, acting CEO Mr. Prasanna Liyanage and Director of SAB Campus Prof. Ariyarathna Jayamaha.

The launch of the new degrees also coincided with SAB Campus’s ten-year anniversary. CA Sri Lanka launched its first degree in Applied Accounting in 2013 with the goal of bridging the nation's widening educational gap at the local university level caused by limited intakes. Within a span of just ten years, SAB Campus has carved an important niche in the higher education landscape by offering world class degrees, and the highly acclaimed Bachelor of Applied Accounting Degree, has become one of the most popular finance degrees in Sri Lanka, which has even been followed by foreign students.

The launch of the two new degrees, according to CA Sri Lanka President Mr. Sanjaya Bandara, is yet another significant step in the Institute's ongoing mission to offer locally produced, internationally recognised degrees to support youth and professionals. "Due to the low enrollment at local universities, Sri Lankans annually spend enormous sums of money on overseas universities. But the SAB Campus has been at the forefront of changing this by revolutionising higher education and by launching degrees that are not only reasonably priced but are also approved by the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education and are recognised worldwide due to its cutting-edge curriculum," he said.

Mr. Bandara said that CA Sri Lanka takes pride in playing a catalyst role in consistently empowering to help existing and aspiring professionals be successful in their chosen fields, so that they can effectively contribute to the success of our nation.

The SAB Campus has made vast strides over the past ten years and have played a key role in helping transform the higher educational landscape of Sri Lanka. Today, the SAB Campus enjoys a student base of over 3,200 undergraduates, and a total of 1,500 students who have successfully graduated and are employed both in Sri Lanka and overseas. The programmes offered by SAB campus also enjoy global recognition having received approval from the World Education Services (WES) which is a trusted leader in credential evaluation services.

Chairman of the Board of Management of the SAB Campus, Mr. Ashane Jayasekara, highlighted that a key feature of the SAB Campus degrees is that they are all approved by both the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Education, which is testament to the fact that the degrees are relevant and in line with the higher educational standards.

"The quality and relevancy of our programmes have been further demonstrated by the impressive student base, which has gone from strength to strength since we launched our first degree in applied accounting in 2013. We can proudly say that all graduates of the SAB Campus are 100 percent employable," he said.

The Business Analytics Degree will equip students with technical skills, statistical skills, and other relevant skills and knowledge to develop solutions. The development of problem-solving abilities and skills in students is a key component of this degree. Students will address problems by utilising Business Analytics and applying concepts learned in their course modules by engaging in projects. Students are also required to undergo compulsory internships and engage in research studies along with course work to comprehend the exceptionality of this degree programme. The Bachelor of Management in Business Analytics Degree is a three-year programme, while the Bachelor of Management Honours in Business Analytics Degree is a four-year programme.

The two-year MBA programme is intended to help working professionals advance their knowledge by developing new skills and knowledge that will enable them to see the world of business from a wider perspective and expand their careers. To make it easier for students who are interested in enrolling for the degree from outside Sri Lanka, the MBA will be provided in a hybrid format.

Intakes for both the Bachelor of Management in Business Analytics Degree and the MBA will commence in August this year, with two intakes planned every year for both new degrees.
