Importance of ethical responsibility amongst public sector accountants highlighted

The importance of ethical responsibility amongst public sector accountants, and the need for effective public financial management was stressed at a seminar held on Tuesday, which was organized by the Association of Public Finance Accountants of Sri Lanka (APFASL), the public sector wing of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

The event was held under patronage of Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajit Coomaraswamy, who was the Chief Guest and Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) President Ms. Carolyn Williamson. In his speech, the Governor emphasized the significant role of effective public financial management, if a country is to achieve economic prosperity.

The guest speakers at the event were Ms. Williamson and Solicitor General Mrs. Dilrukshi Dias Wickramasinghe. The welcome address was delivered by Mr. V. Kanagasabapathy, President of APFASL. President of CA Sri Lanka Mr. Jagath Perera and Chief Operating Officer of CIPFA Mr. Dan Worsley also addressed the event. The seminar concluded following a panel discussion.
