September intake now on for the most sought after CA Sri Lanka BSc. Applied Accounting Degree approved by UGC

Most students who face the Sri Lankan Advanced Level Examination at present achieve the proficiency required to enter university education. Although the percentage of those who qualify increases every year, the opportunities available for students to enter university given the limited educational facilities are very low. It is therefore a necessity that students who do not have the opportunity to enter local universities but who possess the requisite knowledge of their chosen field are given a viable alternative, which is an opportunity to follow another accepted degree.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka), with a 55 year history of creating globally sought after chartered accountants– has taken the timely step to fulfil a much needed gap in education by offering the BSc. Applies Accounting degree.

The Applied Accounting Degree is a course which has been approved by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. The course spans three years and each year consists of two terms, while its focus on practical knowledge is a specialty of the programme. The delivery of the degree moves away from the traditional method and is not only limited to lectures but also encourages self-study by students and is designed to sharpen their soft skills, communication and presentation skills and the use of technical methods. This ensures that the student is a well-rounded graduate fully equipped with the entrepreneurial capabilities necessary for the world of business.

Students who have passed the local or international Advanced Level examinations with three passes and who don’t have the opportunity to enter local universities due to space constraints can gain entrance to this programme. In addition, those who are employed and have fulfilled the advanced level pass requirements can also gain entrance to the programme.

Meanwhile, in an effort to recognize exceptionally talented students in the country, CA Sri Lanka also offers degree scholarships for students who have performed exceptionally well at the Local and London A/L Examinations.

Furthermore, students who are in their third year on the course will be integrated into some of the leading companies in the country for the purpose of ‘Industrial Training’.

The BSc. in Applied Accounting degree also offers a range of exemptions for CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, ACCA, AAT and SLIATE HND qualifications.

Registrations are currently open for the September 2015 intake, which is offered both at full time and part time basis. Students who have completed the local Advanced Level streams or Cambridge and Edexcel London Advanced Level examinations can now register for the BSc. Applied Accounting programme, while students who sat for the 2015 A/L batch can also enroll with pending A/L results. Loan facilities have also been arranged for students with leading banks in the country to enable students to follow the degree programme.

The CA Sri Lanka BSc. Degree in Applied Accounting has also received endorsements from leading universities and professional organisations abroad, with Australia’s La Trobe University and CPA Australia entering into a partnership with CA Sri Lanka. The accreditation allows students who have completed the BSc. (Applied Accounting) degree programme to gain into the CPA programme as an Associate Member of CPA Australia, while La Trobe University allows students who have completed the BSc. (Applied Accounting) degree to enter into a two + two and half year model where students complete their undergraduate degree and get preferential entry through a streamlined process to complete a Master’s degree. This model also has an option of providing students with post study work rights (PSWR) in Australia.
