CA Sri Lanka and University of Sri Jayewardenepura opens new vistas in IT education with Diploma in Computer Based Accounting

Having understood the importance of contemporary IT education, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) together with the Department of Accounting of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura will commence a Diploma in Computer Based Accounting, which will help students enjoy better employment prospects.

The one year long diploma programme has been designed to provide students with an additional qualification for the promotion of better employment in the fields of accounting and finance across both the public and private sector organisations.

The course covers very thematic areas which are relevant in today's context. The modules include; introduction to computer applications, computer based accounting, introduction to programming and database systems, multimedia tools for presentations, integrated computer application for accounting, enterprise resource planning, accounting information systems development and integrated web applications for accounting.

Entry qualifications for the diploma programme includes one of the following; three passes at the GCE (A/L) in the commerce stream with accounting as a subject or a pass in the intermediate level examination of AAT or a pass in the foundation level examination of CAB I of CA Sri Lanka or a pass in the part I examination of CIMA, ICMASL or ACCA.

The diploma programme will provide an opportunity to school leavers, to enter a career in the field of IT based accounting, offering hands-on experience in computer applications in accounting. The diploma is also an important programme for those who are currently employed in organizations and are seeking to enhance their IT knowledge, seeking better employment prospects.
