CA Sri Lanka UAE Chapter blends elegance with CSR at Annual Members' Gala in Dubai

The UAE Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) recently organised its Annual Get Together & Members’ Night—CA Gala 2024—at the Millennium Plaza Downtown Hotel, Dubai, making it an evening of unforgettable celebration, connection, and commitment to helping the underprivileged.

The event, which attracted a large number of business leaders, c-suite executives, and senior Sri Lankan Chartered Accountants holding influential positions in the UAE, was graced by the distinguished presence of Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, President of CA Sri Lanka, and the Honourable Alexi Gunasekera, the Consulate General of Sri Lanka, Dubai, and the Northern Emirates. The event was further boosted with a voice note delivered by His Excellency Udaya Indrarathna, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Iraq, and Kurdistan.

Incidentally, this year’s gala was particularly significant as it marked the first members’ get-together organised by the chapter post-COVID.

In addition to the festivities, the event embraced a significant cause, with the CA Sri Lanka UAE Chapter partnering with the Young Chartered Accountants Forum (YCAF) of CA Sri Lanka in their CSR initiative "Hope for Little Hearts," in collaboration with the Indira Cancer Trust, to support children battling cancer by providing essential medicines and financial assistance for their treatments. The UAE chapter, with the support of members, sponsors, and chapter contributions, donated LKR 1,000,000 towards the worthy cause. The cheque was handed over to Mr. Kuruppu during the event.

A video presentation also showcased some of the chapter’s key moments, including important milestones, and the positive changes achieved over the past five years. The video highlighted contributions to member development through continuous efforts in conducting CPD events, conferences like "LEAD,” organised alongside CA Sri Lanka, and various social and sporting events.

The evening provided an excellent opportunity for members to meet, build connections, and network with fellow members and other professional bodies. In addition to the entertainment acts, music, and raffle draws, it was a chance to foster professional relationships and community engagement.
